CLIT

CAN YOU FIND IT?

unique experiences for all

CLIT is a film festival that will debut in Portugal next October, turning audience members into treasure hunters in search of the venues where films will be screened. They get clues about the location through the festival’s app.

THE CONCEPT

Lockdowns broke moviegoing and other culture-related habits, making people more homebound.

We want to disrupt this “new normal” with a fresh concept featuring an element of surprise.

We don’t have audience members. We have treasure hunters going after what they want.

We don’t invite filmmakers for Q&A sessions.
We create pleasant atmospheres for artists to exchange points of view with other people.

We don’t do movie theatres.
We adapt all kinds of venues to provide unique experiences for all.

CLIT. Find us. Come.

SEND US YOUR FILM!

Films of all genres and lengths can be submitted electronically via FilmFreeway until 6 August.

We’re open to films on all topics, but privilege works on socially relevant issues (human rights, democracy, any of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, etc.) that make audiences think on how they can contribute in a positive way to a better world.

As our director says: “If you want to change the world, do it with pleasure”.

WHO PROMOTES IT?

Festroia, a cultural non-profit based in Setúbal, Portugal.

For 30 years, it organized the Festroia International Film Festival, one of Portugal’s most important events of its kind. It welcomed guest artists like Pedro Almodóvar, Christopher Lee, Jane Russell, Kirk Douglas, Juraj Jakubisko, Maria de Medeiros, Alberto Sordi, Dome Karukoski, Agnieszka Holland, Ingvar Sigurðsson or Ben Gazzara.

In 2007, Festroia IFF became the first international film festival to offset its carbon footprint.

VENUES

The venues can be anywhere, except at a regular movie theatre, because CLIT is an acronym for “Cinema em Locais Inusitados e Temporários” (Cinema in Unusual and Temporary Venues).

CLIT will have a meeting point for artists and audience members called “Ponto G” (G Spot), where groups of people can gather to talk and enjoy the local gastronomy. Unique experiences for all await for you in Setúbal, our host city.

CLIT is not just a film festival. It also strives to raise awareness and promote actions on human rights issues, sustainable development goals and other social matters relevant to the surrounding community. So, we created the Ativa-te! (Get Active!) project with the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS) as partner.

Being one of the festival’s categories, Ativa-te! will feature film screenings at secret venues around the IPS campus as part of the welcoming activities for new and returning students. This way, students will have the opportunity to know the whole campus in a fun way, while fostering their civic participation and their sense of belonging to the wider community.

Ativa-te! is funded in exclusive by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants, to contribute towards a green, competitive and inclusive Europe. A consortium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Bissaya Barreto Foundation manages the Active Citizens Fund in Portugal.
